State of the art gym in Huyton

A new state-of-the-art gym in Huyton, Liverpool could open as early as 2011.

Leisure jobs are already set to be created at the proposed ?25 million sports village which has been unveiled by Knowsley council.

The multi-million pound project was included in the authority's 2009-10 budget and will create careers in leisure at the new aquatic centre, gym and sports halls.

Council leader Ron Round described the development as a "fantastic investment for the future".

He said: "These new leisure facilities will bring a multitude of benefits. They will have a direct impact on health and wellbeing, providing pleasant places to take part in exercise and sport, whatever your age."

"The developments will also give a boost to jobs and the local economy as they are built and become operational."

Children will also be encouraged to take advantage of IT, music and art facilities at the new MyPlace youth facility set to be built at the site.

Good health has become a focus in the Knowsley area recently, with Evelyn Primary school taking advantage of local sports facilities for their health and safety week.
