Not skipping breakfast 'important for weight loss'

People looking to lose weight through exercise and good nutrition should try to avoid skipping meals, an expert suggests.

Dr Marilyn Glenville, nutritionist and author of the book Fat Around the Middle, said that it is important people maintain steady eating routines to ensure their bodies know what to expect.

She commented: "Don't skip breakfast. It is a fast from the night before and if you skip breakfast, by 11 o'clock, you will be looking for that coffee and a Danish."

In news that may appeal to beauty therapy workers, Ms Glenville added that a routine is important to stabilise the metabolism and let go of excess weight gradually.

According to research by TNS Global, British consumers spend around £11 billion on healthy eating each year,

However, the firm's research shows that around 88 per cent of Britons do not meet the government's current targets of eating five fruit and vegetable portions a day.
