Kettering leisure centre launches new swimming scheme
A leisure centre in Kettering is to offer free swimming lessons to a number of non-swimmers living in the region.
Parkwood Leisure and Kettering Borough Council will provide many people who cannot swim with lessons at Kettering Swimming Pool if they are over the age of 16.
Five blocks of lessons will be given initially, targeting people looking to improve their fitness from specific social groups.
If the sessions prove popular the scheme, which is funded by the Amateur Swimming Association, may be extended until September.
Russell Roberts, the council's portfolio holder for the community, commented: "We hope that by offering free swimming lessons to non-swimmers we will be able to remove another barrier faced by people who want to swim but feel they can't".
In a further development that may interest those looking for leisure jobs, the government recently announced that its free swimming scheme is to also be extended further across England.
