Govt cycling funding 'may improve health and fitness'

The government is aiming to continue improving the health and fitness of the public by pledging more funding towards cycling facilities.

A further £10 million is to be provided to bodies including the Peak District National Park in order to support the development of cycling routes and parking facilities.

Cycling Demonstration Towns are also expected to receive more financial support in the near future.

Sadiq Khan, the government's transport minister, commented that cycling exercise can help address congestion issues while providing health benefits.

He added: "I am also pleased to announce that we will be providing Sustrans with £6m this year to install cycle parking and build cycling and walking links to schools."

According to the government, recent survey results have suggested its Cycling Demonstration Towns initiative is having a positive impact for some people.

Meanwhile, fatfreefitness.co.uk founder Rich Leigh recently suggested that schoolchildren should be given more advice about how they can develop their fitness in easy ways.
