Derbyshire youngsters taught benefits of sports coaching
A number of youngsters in the Derbyshire Dales have been given the chance to learn new sports coaching skills after taking part in a recent initiative. In total, 11 young people living in Hartington passed a Day Certificate in Sports Leadership course backed by the local council.
They are now said to be planning a number of leisure activities, after taking part in a school summer holiday events programme called Active Hartington.
Commenting on the sports leadership course, the chairman of the Derbyshire Dales District Council community and environment committee Janet Goodison said: "Hartington is a true village and should be congratulated for the way it has trained many of the young people to provide coaching and support to other children in the village."
People in leisure jobs were also recently told that a new partnership between Sport England and Facebook should allow grassroots sports teams to organise more of their events through social networking.
