Biking star opens Wakefield gym facilities
BMX biking Olympian Shanaze Reade has officially unveiled new gym facilities in Wakefield.
In a development that may help those in personal training jobs in the region, the city's new adiZone features multi-sport options in an outdoor setting.
Open 365 days a year and entirely free for local residents to make use of, the gym at Hemsworth Arts and Community College is the first of its kind to be built outside of London.
It is designed to encourage more people to adopt healthy activities in the run-up to the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Fitness instructors and local sports coaches will be able to use the site to spot new talent and encourage youngsters to develop their exercise skills.
Denise Jeffery, deputy leader of Wakefield Council, commented: "We are so proud that the Wakefield district is the first place outside of London to get the outdoor gym and everyone had a fantastic time at the [opening] event.
"It was a great chance for people to see for themselves just how fantastic the adiZone gym is."
The council recently launched a separate scheme to offer water sports sessions to children during the summer holidays.
